Chickasha Pubic Schools is excited to announce the Hall of Honor Class of 2025. The Hall of Honor was established to celebrate those special individuals who have contributed to the welfare of humanity, brought unusually positive attention to Chickasha Public Schools, and modeled the highest personal and professional qualities for students. CPS received numerous high-quality applications for this special honor. After a thoughtful and careful review, the following people were selected for this special recognition.
Mr. Dickey Powell
Mr. Powell started his career with Chickasha Public Schools in 1968 as a teacher and coach. In 1973 he was named the CHS Assistant Principal where he would go on to become Principal in 1978. In 1987 he was promoted to be a district administrator where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Over the years he led initiatives on title programs, attendance, grants, Johnson-O’Malley, North Central Accreditation, and much, much more. Additionally, he mentored new and upcoming educational leaders throughout the district where he made a lasting impact on the lives of educators and students for years to come. Setting a high bar of expectations while growing and supporting others were the trademarks of his career as a FIGHTIN’ CHICK. Mr. Powell and his wife, Marie, had three children together that all graduated from Chickasha High School and are long-time members of Holy Name Catholic Church.
Mrs. Marie Powell
Mrs. Powell is the living example of making an investment into the lives of others. Starting in the 1960’s until the dawn of a new millennium, Mrs. Powell served the students, staff, and parents as a secretary at Grand Avenue Elementary for 43 years. Throughout her career, students and parents were greeted warmly with a smile and make everyone feel welcomed. From answering the phone to greeting a guest or walking a student to class she was the epitome of kindness and compassion. She truly is the defining example of being a FIGHTIN’ CHICK. Mrs. Powell is the wife of Mr. Dickey Powell. They will both be celebrated together for the impact they have made on countless students across our community throughout their careers.
Mr. Paul Wesley Harris
Mr. Harris was a renowned architect that has been attributed with the design of numerous buildings throughout southwest Oklahoma. Having moved to Chickasha in 1910 with his parents and siblings he was enrolled into Chickasha Public Schools. Harris graduated from Chickasha High School in 1919 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater in 1925. He started his career in Chickasha by working with the offices of E.H. Eads and Company in the late 1920’s and eventually started his own company. His projects included the design of the Chickasha City Hall, Chickasaw High School (now Chickasha Middle School) auditorium, Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma) student union building and worked on the design for the Nash Library. During his career his projects won multiple awards and accolades for the use of concrete and architectural designs. Eventually Harris moved to Lawton and opened offices in Oklahoma City. He died suddenly on November 20, 1958 after suffering a heart attack at his home.
This amazing class will be honored at the Chickasha Public Schools Foundation GALA on Friday, April 25, 2025. The event will be held at the Grady County Fairgrounds. Tickets may be purchased for this event by contacting the Chickasha Public Schools Foundation Office.
