June Board Meeting Highlights District Changes
The June Board meeting began with many recognitions of students and staff and their accomplishments and awards. Highlighting those were Macy Barnett, our School Based Social Worker. Macy was recognized as the Chicken Express Employee of the Month. Macy's impact in our District is immense. Although she is housed at the Enrollment Center, Macy is a positive influence throughout the District working with all of our students and staff. Greg Gibson, our District Teacher of the Year, was recognized by our Board of Education for his accomplishments and dedication to our students. The next three recognitions were our staff who were recognized for their contributions by entities outside of our District. Emily Schmidt was honored as the Outstanding FFA Teacher of the Year. Dan Turner was recognized by the community of Chickasha as the Citizen of the Year. Finally, but certainly not least, is Jerry Don Bray, recognized as District #14 Central Office Administrator of the Year.
We also love to recognize feats of our students: Brock Jerman was recognized as Boys Golf State Qualifier. Chickasha Baseball team was a State tournament qualifier. The Chickasha Track Team has numerous State Qualifiers: Taylor Caveness (High Jump), Marlly Scott (Discus Throw), Jason Kawaykla (4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays), James Harrell (4x100, 4x200 relays), Keyton McPherson (4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays), Adin Williams (4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays), Ethan Sales (4x400 relay)
Last year our District introduced an award recognizing employees in each building and area in the District for going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD). These employees were:
Bill Wallace Early Childhood Center - Lisa Chambon Grand Avenue Elementary - Glena Brock
Lincoln School Intermediate Center - Amanda Overby Chickasha Middle School - Leta Pruitt
Chickasha High School - Debbie Bradford Adult Learning Center / Chickasha Quality Academy - Angel Scott
Child Nutrition - Karla Schenk Maintenance - Kyle Horton
Transportation - Darla McArthur Administration - Rochelle Bowens
We appreciate all of our employees who go above and beyond. Each recipient exemplifies the spirit of excellence that defines our district.
In a testament to our commitment to continuous improvement, the Board approved a revised calendar for the 24-25 Academic Year. This decision, informed by feedback from staff and the community, reflects our dedication to fostering an optimal learning environment. The new calendar can be found on the website under District Information.
One of the final changes the Board voted on last evening was a name change for Lincoln. The District has changed the name from Lincoln Elementary to Lincoln School Intermediate Center. The Distinct feels the name change correctly captures the essence and focus of the work and student engagement that occurs daily by the staff and leadership. In these grades the students begin to transition to competitive athletics and elective programs, such as band and choir and more.
As the evening concluded with executive discussions on staffing, we reflect on the past year's successes and eagerly anticipate the opportunities ahead. The dedication and passion of our students and staff continue to propel us forward, shaping a future filled with promise and possibility.
Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on another transformative year ahead! For more photos from the evening, please visit our District FB page.
